CITIZENSHIP and Christian values will be included in the school curriculum next year, the Government says.
Education Secretary Dr Uke Kombra, speaking at the senior education officers’ conference this week in Kimbe, West New Britain, said teachers would be trained to teach the subjects.
He said the subjects were important and should be treated as a compulsory.
Education Minister Nick Kuman said grade 3 will teach citizenship and Christian values.
He said the subject should be fully implemented by 2020 so that “we have God-fearing people come out from our education system”. He wants provinces to start the school restructure from prep to grade 12 next year – one year at elementary, six at primary level and six at high school.
Kuman said he signed the ministerial directions last week and the implementation of the policy should begin now.
Kuman has directed a standardisation of all school grades as follows: Grades 1-6 will be called primary; grades 7-10, junior high; grades 11-12, senior high; grades 7-12, secondary.
Grades 11-12 at national high schools will be schools of excellence and have a dedicated subject specialisation.
