New system will leave many out

Letters

Although the PNG University of Technology authorities have seen some logic to raise the bar to entry into the limited space, there are issues of discriminatory act against our hardworking people as a state-owned institution, which is mandated and funded to contribute to nation building.
The entry system goal post has been drastically shifted favour the “haves” and leave the “have nots” out in the cold.
I’m sure there are brilliant minds who will be left out because of the decision. Would not this further contribute to classes of people?
The elites and the educated get the chances and the rural and the populace get left behind because they cannot afford the entry exam fees or find it extremely difficult to travel to main centers to sit for the aptitude tests on short notice. What about our Grade 12s from Manus, Kavieng, Buin, Mendi, Henganofi, Kerowagi,Tari, Ramu, Kabwum, Wau, Wasu, Raikos, Bogia Finchaffen, Popondetta, Kerema, Daru, or Bogia and the list goes on?
Those in Lae and Pom get the go ahead while the rural Grade 12 miss out double, if they miss this aptitude test, they probably miss the national selection too.
Where would the DHERST come in to mitigate the entry opportunity for the rural and the average Papua New Guineans, who are eligible but cannot afford and current Grade 12 will not be given a chance because Unitech has set a bench mark too hard for the people, which the government owned institution they are supposed to be educated and trained in get rejected by the system.
I hope the Unitech council and administration did consider the social and community responsibly it has of educating the average Papua New Guinean who cannot afford to be trained in Australia or elsewhere, because of their economic advancement, social status and geographical location.
The National Education Selection system is working well except for few rotten apples. The selection system is ok. The products coming through from the OBE system that is defective, not necessarily the end user  selection process.
Unitech has a wider and a national responsibly of providing an affordable higher education.
They cannot house a skul bilong liklik pikinini on campus and not take into some consideration the core responsibility of accommodating the rest of PNG who have every right to a higher education service.
