No real patriotism on display in sports

Letters

PAPUA New Guineans are not always patriotic when it comes to rugby league. That was observed when our country men lost to the Rugby League Giants in the Prime Minister’s 13 match recently.
Some of the supporter’s in the stadium were supporting the NRL stars right on their soil against their countrymen.
You could see from the crowd that rushed in after the match in support of our country men who lost to the Australians. You should support your star when he is playing in his NRL team in Australia or with other nations and not with your countrymen. What are sad situation.
This was the total opposite with the match between our soccer team and the New Zealanders in the Recent Oceania Soccer Championship. Everyone in the stadium was at the back of our national team.
This was clearly demonstrated when the stadium was in silence when the Top Goal Scorer of the tournament missed the very crucial penalty. I thank everyone who were present and supported our national team. You are real patriots.
We should support our national teams in their international matches, whether they lose or win, please lets be patriotic.
On that note, can all the Kapul’s international matches and our local NSL matches be telecast so that fans can enjoy just like the Digicel Cup?
