Mobility should not be a problem for the 31 new policemen based in Kagua-Erave, in Southern Highlands, local MP James Lagea says.

Lagea (pictured), who was accompanied by Deputy Governor James Mali, presented three new vehicles to

the police on Saturday at Kagua station.

The vehicles were named Woodman 1, 2 and 3 by Southern Highlanders because of lawlessness around the area.

Two vehicles were purchased by the provincial government and the other by the district administration.

Lagea promised to buy another police vehicle this week for the highway patrol and made available K20,000 for accessories.

He told Kagua police station commander Chief Insp Albert Koi and his officers to use the vehicles for the intended purpose and remove the “woodman” name tags from the

vehicles when the job was accomplished.

Lagea said that he and Southern Highlands Governor William Powi  recognised the lawlessness in the district and started to equip policemen with resources to restore and maintain law and order in the province.

He said police would be armed and the construction of new 40 houses for police in Kagua would start shortly from the K10 million allocated by the provincial government.

He said they were fortunate to have a high-ranking officer to manage and enforce orders in the district.

“I do not want to see policemen drink beer and drive the vehicles or carry people,” he said.

Lagea said that law and order was one of his priorities and urged police to get down to the bottom of

it.

Lawlessness, he said, prevented government goods and services reaching the people in the district.

“I have confidence under the leadership of Chief Insp Koi to contain lawlessness and maintain order in the district,” Lagea said.
