GAUBIN Hospital, on Karkar Island, Madang, recently received a K375,000 X-ray machine, thanks to generous donors last Saturday.
The machine was a gift dedicated to the work of the late Don Kudan, former secretary of Lutheran Health Services and former chairman of the Church Medical Council of Papua New Guinea who died earlier this year.
He was born on the island and had contributed to improving services at the hospital, which serves more than 60,000.
The need to give and support the running of the hospital was recognised by visitors to the hospital, business houses and the Melanesian Foundation.
The machine was bought and presented by Melanesian Foundation chairman Sir Peter Barter, Simon Diver, PNG Sustainable Ltd, Sir John and Anna Middleton, Petromin Ltd, an anonymous donor of Karkar and the Madang Lutheran Memorial Church.
Sir Peter said the donation was fitting for a time like Christmas which called for peace and goodwill to all men.
He said it was a token of appreciation to the late Kudan.
He said the donation was not politically motivated but to help and give to the people in dire need important services.
“All work done by the foundation is to help those in rural areas and as a small foundation, there is no full-time worker and funds received are used purposely for projects,” Sir Peter said.
The presentation took place on Saturday at the hospital.
