New Year gifts thrill disabled duo

TWO people living with disability are excited with their New Year’s gifts – a new wheelchair each – so life doesn’t have to be a drag for them like it has been over the last five years.
Martina Haulari, from Margarima, and Eka Hari, from Koroba in Hela, had moved about with a lot of difficulty because neither could walk properly.
They became emotional when the Hela Rural Development Foundation presented their wheelchairs.
“It is truly a New Year’s gift and a blessing to me and I would like to thank Port Moresby Rotary and the foundation for the kind gesture to enable me to move around with less stress and difficulty,” Haulari said.
Foundation founder Eric Yawas said the donation came from a partnership with Port Moresby Rotary Club.
The partnership allowed the foundation to collected donations from Port Moresby as part its community support programme and airlifted them to Hela last week.
Foundation co-founder Tiken Takili Mukuni said it would be a life-changing experience for the recipients and extended its appreciation to Rio Fioco and the Port Moresby Rotary team for the support.
“We will continue our community support programme in this new year and going into the future as it has always been our goal to support humanity in the rural settings, especially school children and the elderly,” he said.
