PMGH for all Papua New Guineans: Parkop

THE Port Moresby General Hospital is a national referral hospital and training facility and, therefore, is for all Papua New Guineans, National Capital District (NCD) Governor Powes Parkop says.
Parkop said the Government had declared the hospital as such, belonged to the country, and not just those in NCD and neighbouring Central and Gulf provinces.
He said the National Capital District Commission would now focus on improving all health infrastructures in the city to cater for the growing health needs of the residents.
Parkop said the NCD health authority had signed a memorandum of understanding with the Health Ministry

to improve the city’s public health services.
“The government has allocated K10million for the Gerehu Hospital to be upgraded to level five in the near future, however, that amount will not be enough,” he added.
Parkop said all clinics in the city needed to be upgraded to level three and appealed to NCD’s three MPs and their development authorities to ensure that happened.
He said the upgrading needed to cover all areas, including infrastructure, equipment and staffing.
