News of Manning’s arrest ‘fake’

National

THE imminent arrest of Police Commissioner David Manning has been labelled as fake, unethical and affecting national security and has seen a taskforce set up to identify the person who posted the allegations on Facebook and other social media platforms.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (operations) Donald Yamasombi said Manning, who is on a break, was told of the allegations which were claimed to be perpetrated by himself (Yamasombi) and other senior officials within the command.
However, DCP Yamasombi, who is acting police commissioner in Manning’s absence, said he had no knowledge of an arrest of Manning and had not started an investigation into any allegations against him.
He said the claims on social media were false.
“I condemn the release of this fake news over the social media, which is not only reckless and aimed at destabilising the police force, but furthermore, has the potential to create a national security issue,” he said.
When asked on what the allegations were, DCP Yamasombi did not state the allegations but said that the information they received would be investigated.
“I cannot allow this behaviour to continue to be unchecked and unanswered. I have today established a task force to investigate this matter and arrest those involved.”
