THE New Guinea Islands women’s soccer side is preparing well for the upcoming PNGFA Women’s League from Nov 1-4 in Lae.
NGI coach Michael Waname has laid down a challenge to the three other regional teams in the league.
Waname and his 18-member squad started training at PNGFA Technical Centre in Kimbe after the Besta FA Cup finals in Lae last month.
Waname was confident his team would do well during the tournament.
“The bulk of the team is made up of school girls,” Waname said.
“We’ve picked a good group of players who performed during the NGI Besta Cup qualifiers.”
Waname said his side was made up of a mixture of youth and experienced players from Kimbe, New Britain Palm Oil, Manus and Bougainville assoociations.
“We have three experienced players in Ramona Padio, Georgina Bakani and Nicollette Ageva, who were members of the PNG U20 team at the 2016 Fifa U20 World, and senior player Edith Wibeawa to control our midfield.”
