FC MOROBE Wawens co-founder and vice-president Peter Seske was instrumental in setting up a deal between the club and Rush Soccer USA.
Seske has been working to create a partnership for soccer in Morobe and Papua New Guinea.
The partnership agreement now paves way for Wawens to be involved with their USA partners in developing youth talent (including students) and seniors (men and women) players through the RUSH USA international programme which includes technical training and assistance.
Wawens were without sponsorship for its inaugural NSL season (2017-18) but secured the deal ahead of next season for technical assistance and equipment.
Seske said the club was still without a sponsor for the upcoming season and for its Oceania Champions League qualification in February (2019) after finishing second behind champions Toti City FC.
Seske said Wawens would receive training equipment and uniform for its NSL and OFC matches as part of the deal with RUSH USA.
He said the opportunity was now here for players to turn professional or get exposure to high quality training.
“This deal is unique and a blessing for our players and encourages us to work even harder in the areas of players’ mental and physical discipline to raise their levels in the sports and be able to play high quality football,” Seske said.
He added that PNGFA was providing another avenue through its Soccer Academy (now changed to the Education Centre) but encouraged clubs in PNG to create their own systems and partnerships.
Seske said the partnership with RUSH Soccer USA was a boon for the club and would open doors for its players: “We’ve made a lot of sacrifices and have had some support from local sponsors and the government but this deal will help us achieve our goals and we are grateful for that,” said Seske.
