MARIE Stopes PNG completed a two-day workshop for community based mentors (CBM) regarding sexual reproductive health and family planning at Okari campus, Lae, Morobe.
Fourteen participants from different clinics in the province attended the workshop as community based mentors.
Marie Stopes country director Angelyn Famudi said their stand in the community was to provide family planning advice and support to families and help youths and the public with regards to sexual reproductive health services.
“We do a lot of training of community based mentors so we usually go out in the communities to understand their needs,” she said.
“Our rural teams go out in rural parts to cater for the rural people in terms of family planning services and sexual reproductive health.”
She said Marie Stopes would operate during the election period providing services to the public.
“We know the election period is here and there is a high rate of sexual activity in the communities, and our CBMs are ready to go out and serve the communities.”
Norbert Manarip, 42, a CBM attached with Mary Queen of Peace clinic in Backroad, Lae, said the workshop was helpful in improving their ability to patients and families in their communities.
“It’s the first time we attended this type of programme by Marie Stopes to enhance our skills in helping our communities on family planning and sexual reproductive health,” he said.
“We learn how to do reports and the process of reporting to Marie Stopes in our respective communities. “Now it’s our job to get back to our communities and advocate to the people,” Manarip said.
