A LAE-based non-government organisation has saluted Finance Minister Don Polye for his ascension as chairman of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

“It is one of the highest international posts to be held by a Papua New Guinean and we must all put our hands together and applaud Polye for the recognition,” Iwaks Kawage, general secretary of Somsia Community Development Association, said on Wednesday.

He said Prime Minister Peter O’Neill and his government should be commended for acknowledging and rewarding Polye for his qualities, leadership and contributions.

“It shows that our government is serious about going global and participating in high finance at the global level.”

Kawage said O’Neill’s visit to Israel was a clear example of the chief executive’s desire to take PNG onto the global stage.
