NID and rising population

Letters

THE population of Papua New Guinea is growing at an alarming rate.
There is no proper record but it is obvious that our existing facilities can no longer accommodate the current demand.
Babies are born every day and the impact is costing the country a great deal.
The government should seriously address this issue through policy interventions such as a two or three-child policy and integrate that into the free-education policy.
It will require a good database management system to work.
It is time the government beefs up its investment in the rollout of the NID programme which should include the engagement of competent personnel and the acquisition of additional infrastructure.
Many Papua New Guineans want to register but the programme cannot accommodate their applications.
Statistics is crucial for any government plan and programme.
Please, government, it’s time to seriously focus on NID.
