HAVING a National Identification Card (NID) is vital and will easily allow landowners to register their land in Incorporated Land Groups (ILG), Department of Justice and Attorney-General secretary Dr Eric Kwa says.
Kwa said that since illegal land grabbing had been a major issue facing landowners, having an ILG would enable them to protect their land.
He said this during the presentation of NID cards and birth certificates from Constitutional Law Reform Commission (CLRC) to landowners at Barakau village, Central, on Saturday.
“I want everyone in the country to have NID cards so they can register their land in ILGs, so their land will be protected,” Kwa said.
“When you have an ILG you won’t be selling your land but you can lease it.
“This will allow you to generate income from your land which will help you send your children to school and support you,” he add.
The presentation was part of a pilot project initiated by CLRC in 2018 that rolled out reforms under the NID policy, Land Act and ILG registration.
CLRC, Gender equity and social inclusion (Gesi) officer Vincent Gigmai said the reformed Land Act of 2019 allowed for ILG registration to take place with the use of NID cards.
A total of 270 NID cards and 784 birth certificates were delivered to the villagers on Saturday; 1,193 villagers registered through the project.

  • Didn’t the Prime Minister recently said that the NID program/ project is a failed project!!!

So what is Secretary Kwa on about???

  • NID is a failed project – right now people are still waiting for their NID cards because of bribery tatics in all the NID Offices in the country. Something has to be done about all this and fast before the election time come 2022.
