MINISTER for Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology Pila Ninigi says the effective adoption of new digital technology will make education more relevant, engaging and motivating.
He said teachers should implement new technology to transform learning environments and create more opportunities for students.
Niningi was speaking during the announcement of the 8590 grade 12 students selected by the new online selection application for studies in tertiary institutions. They include the University of Papua New Guinea, University of Technology, University of Goroka, Divine Word University, University of Natural Resource and Environment and Pacific Adventist University.
In June, the departments of education and higher education, research, science and technology hosted a school principals’ conference attended by 148 heads of secondary schools.
The students’ results were made available in the system at 8am on Sunday, Dec 9. Within 70 hours, 22,411 students were able to view the choices available and made adjustments if they wanted to.
“During the grace period, there were 22,411 unique users on our server. By the end of the grace period, a total of 14,740 grade 12 students were able to adjust with eligible choices and acceptable programmes.”
Meantime, Niningi said higher education institutions such as service originations in the world of digital information should seek every means to enhance the quality of service delivery and drive efficiency and cost savings.
