LAE law and order committee chairman Sam Oyaya has raised concern about certain nightclubs in the city operating beyond their hours and disturbing public peace.
Oyaya did not name the clubs but said they were located in the central business area.
He said the clubs were operating beyond 2am and playing loud music and selling until 4 or 5am.
Oyaya said the clubs should be identified and licences forfeited.
“I have reports of nightclubs in the city operating beyond their normal operation time,” Oyaya said.
“I hear they are also selling alcohol to the underage.
“Early in the morning when people want to go to church or go to work, the drunkards are coming out of these clubs and causing nuisance on the streets.”
Oyaya said he wanted nightclubs to follow the law.
“I also call on the people who issue liquor licences to screen businesses properly before issuing them licences,” he said.
“Alcohol has created a lot of problems in our communities, so we have to regulate it properly.”
