Nomane no longer Chimbu deputy governor

Letters, Normal

THE Chimbu governor’s declaration last week that the Member for Chuave, Jim Nomane, is still the deputy governor can be treated as a contempt of court.
The Supreme Court had nullified the amendments to the Provincial and Local Level Government Act and restored the powers of council presidents back to the provincial assembly.
This ruling also nullified and revoked the appointments of all national MPs to the deputy governor’s post and Nomane is no exception.
The good governor should consider the deputy’s position vacant and allow due process to take its course.
His administration should also prepare an official swearing-in ceremony for LLG council presidents into the provincial assembly.
The LLG council presidents are now empowered under the Provincial and Local Level Government Act to contest for the deputy governor’s post once sworn-in.
