THE Northern government this week signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the National Fisheries Authority (NFA) to deliver projects that will benefit the people.
Northern Governor Gary Juffa said as a maritime province they were keen to work with NFA to deliver projects through its business arm Northern Province Resources Limited.
“We are impressed with the reforms brought about under the management and leadership of Fisheries Minister Dr Lino Tom who is doing a magnificent job,” Juffa said.
“We are pleased to be signing this MoU which allows us to interact with fisheries on projects that we can work together on that will bring greater benefits to our people.
“Our business arm is ready and we would like to partner with you.
We want to get our fishermen to participate in activity of marine resources in a sustainable manner.
“We are pleased to see the NFA being proactive in this regard.”
NFA provincial support coordinator Bolteon Towok said the authority was focused on working with district development authorities (DDAs) and provincial business arms.
“We have interacted with DDAs and companies in assisting them in the process.
“A good example is the Rigo fisheries cooperation.
“We have helped them with the business plan and assisted them with the licence and they are into wet fish buying and crabs as well,” he said.
The Northern Province Resources Ltd is headed by executive chairman Reginald Monagi.
The members include Dr Wilson Kamit, Dr Ken Ngangan and Oro acting administrator Trevor Magei.
