THE Northern Confederate named its representative sides for the national rugby league zone championships after staging its trials last week.
The championships will be in Goroka, Eastern Highlands, from Aug 22-26.
Seven leagues – Lae, Madang, Ramu, Kainantu, Wau, Atzera and Unity (Mad Technical College, Madang Teachers College and Divine Word University) – took part in the trials last week in the Morobe capital.
Northern Zone are the defending confederate champions in the Under-16, U18, U20 and senior men’s divisions.
Southern are the women’s champions.
Northern zone selectors Dennis Miall, Robin Iveke, David Atua and confederation director Russ Kaupa were confident with their selections for the five teams.
“The selectors are happy with the performance of the players selected and we are looking forward to defending the titles,” Atua said.
