THE Kone Tigers won the inaugural Dadi Toka Cup after edging the Hanuabada Hawks 16-14 in their round 19 Port Moresby Rugby League A grade match last Saturday.
The Hawks-Tigers annual challenge was sponsored by Sir Dadi Toka, pictured, a pioneer player for both Tigers and Hawks clubs.
Sir Dadi is one of the three knights from the Tigers with Sir Joe Tauvasa and Sir John Kaputin the other two.
The first of the annual fixture between the two clubs saw a great finish for the Daniel Kapi-led Tigers from Waigaini. The victory also kept the big cats’ finals hopes alive with their chance still dependent on the result of the suspended Tarangau and Warriors game – that clash was called off with the National Football Stadium management cancelling Sunday games on field two after heavy rain.
The Tigers’ win had denied the Hawks the minor premiership with one more round to go before the finals.
The Lalokau FM-sponsored Motuan side face Souths in the final round of the regular season this weekend while the Tigers face the other team, who have an equal claim to the minor title themselves the Kone Storms.
