POLLING for local level government elections in Northern will take place on Monday, provincial police commander Jacob Singura said yesterday.
Snr Insp Singura said he had spoken with provincial election manager Peter Malaifeope on Wednesday and confirmed that polling would start on Monday and not Saturday as set by the Electoral Commission.
“The reason for the delay is to do with administrative arrangements that have to be finalised for polling officers in order for them to be fully prepared before polling can take place,” he said.
“We are hopeful this dilemma is sorted out over the next two days before polling starts on Monday.
“Police personnel have been briefed and are preparing their schedules to maintain security during polling.”
Singura said police operations would be limited because they would only be receiving incidental allowances and so would not be able to hire cars and buy fuel to help boost operations.
