NSW U16s defeat Southern Confederate 12-8

THE New South Wales (NSW) Young Achievers Under-16s beat Southern Confederation 12-8 at the National Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday.
They ended their week-long rugby league tour of Papua New Guinea which started in Popondetta, Northern, and ended in the nation’s capital over the weekend.
After losing against a Popondetta Rugby League select side, the visitors ended their tour in style with two tries to Southern Confederation’s one.
The visitors led 6-4 at halftime, thanks to a converted try to NSW centre Blake Meratt. Andy Roy bagged the home side’s only first-half try.
The second half resumed with another try to NSW five-eighth Jack Cole and Meratt made sure of the conversion to give a visitors a 12-4 lead.Southern Confederation scored a consolation try through centre David Manoa.
The Young Achievers funded their own trip to PNG, with the aim of promoting the sport at the junior level. Port Moresby Rugby League staged the visitors’ final match which was described as a success.
