‘Nurse was awarded building job’

A MALE nurse who could not even build a “chicken shed” was given a multi-million Kina contract by the Health Department to build a medical storage facility, Northern Governor Gary Juffa says.
“The department has been giving contracts to people who have no prior building knowledge or experience,” he told Parliament during grievance debate.
Juffa also highlighted Justice Minister Bryan Kramer’s report on a contract in his province costing K2 million that was contracted between 2007 and 2012.
“The K2.7 million project was never implemented in the province, the Health Department was responsible for the project, that is what we investigated and found,” he said.
“In fact, it was the department’s procurement committee that was exposed in the Public Accounts Committee (Pac) inquiry in which I was deputy chairman.
“That same committee (procurement) and elements of it are still around. No MPs were involved and it was solely a department project.
“We are going to get the names of the members involved and present them to the minister and police to help the Justice Ministry to carry out investigations.
“If we are responsible in any way, we must rectify the situation.
“During the time the contract was awarded, they also awarded a contract through that same corrupt procurement committee which somehow exist to this day.
“They also awarded a contract for the building of a medical storage facility. That contract was awarded to a male nurse who has no building experience and was living in a settlement and had been paid for nine years, even though he never went to work.”
