THE Lemakot School of Nursing in New Ireland opened its new mess facility last Friday.
Special guests at the event were Rabaul archbishop Rochus Tatamai, deputy New Ireland governor Sammy Missen, women’s representative Misbil Nelson and members of the Health Department who joined principal Catherine Songonai, students and other members of the community.
“The journey to have the mess facility completed was not an easy one as it took the institution five years, on and off, to finally see it built,” Songonai said.
She said they started using portions of school
fees to build and with assistance of K150,000 through the New Ireland government’s partnership with the churches policy, the building was completed.
Songonai acknowledged the support of the New Ireland government and the Catholic church.
“Thank you for having the wisdom to direct funding to this important institution,” she said.
“This institution does not only serv students from the province, it serves those from around the country as well.”
