AN infrastructure development project which will cover staff housing for the Palmalmal Secondary School in Pomio, East New Britain, is expected to start soon.
Pomio MP Elias Kapavore said the contract had to be outsourced by the Pomio development authority board through a special meeting.
He said the project would cost around K1 million.
Kapavore explained that the project was co-funded by the district through an allocation of K1 million from the Department of Provincial and Local Level Government Affairs and Department of Education.
“We outsourced the project because the Pomio technical team is currently engaged in several major projects and we want to ensure the work is done on time,” he said.
Kapavore said teachers were currently sharing accommodation due to lack of housing.
“This is the first project for the Pomio procurement committee, which is responsible for tendering and awarding the contract worth K999,900,” he said.
“The Pomio development authority has also approved another K150,000 for the procurement of white goods for the housing project.”
