NEW Zealand has indicated its investment in the national electrification partnership programme, Prime Minister James Marape says.
Marape in response to questions regarding New Zealand’s part in the agreement that was signed at the end of the Apec leaders meeting in 2018, said they were still on target and had indicated the areas they wanted to invest including Enga’s Tsak Valley.
He said during the discussions on the electrification programme Minister for Planning and Monitoring Sam Basil urged NZ to state exactly where they would be making commitments to the programme.
“Basil is also sending out a signal to the four nations who signed the agreement to help and we want them to tell us exactly where they will be investing.
“Government has indicated to them that under the Connect PNG programme, we want the major lines to be connecting all parts of our country within the next five years and that’s something that’s part of our programme.
“So Basil is taking carriage of this matter,” he said.
PNG, New Zealand, Australia, the US and Japan signed a K3 billion National Electrification Programme in 2018 with the aim of covering 70 per cent households by 2030.
