THE People’s National Congress-led coalition is set to form government today if they meet in parliament to elect a speaker and prime minister.
A ruling on an injunction, preventing parliament to sit until after next Wednesday, would be decided on today at the National Court.
With the mark past the 56 members needed for a simple majority, the Alotau group had produced the numbers and received the blessings to establish government.
The 80-odd member entourage, led by PNC leader Peter O’Neill arrived in Port Moresby at 2pm yesterday from Alotau, Milne Bay, after a two-week camp.
They were welcomed by Chief Secretary Manasupe Zurenuoc, Police Commissioner Tom Kulunga and National Capital District operations commander Supt Andy Bawa, NCD candidate Powes Parkop, Air Niugini chief executive officer Wasantha Kumarasiri and PNC officials and partners.
O’Neill gave the assurance to restore government stability, push for better economic growth and national unity.
“The Alotau team stands united and will be at parliament tomorrow (today).”
While O’Neill was aware of the court injunction and rumours of a military coup, he could not discuss these matters.
