O’Neill withdraws appeal

PETER O’Neill has withdrawn an application to the National Court seeking to restrain Sir Michael Somare from performing duties as Prime Minister.
The Waigani National Court registry confirmed on Tuesday that proceedings had been stopped.
O’Neill’s lawyers from Warner Shand Lawyers filed the documents last Wednesday evening but because of minor corrections to the documents, they had re-filed the documents last Thursday.
The matter was sche­duled for hearing on Monday.
But with Governor-General Sir Michael Ogio recognising O’Neill as the prime minister, the application was withdrawn.
