OCEANIA Fight Promotions (OFP) launched its professional bouts for the next two months with sports broadcasting channel TV Wan Action joining to promote local boxers.
OFP official Noel Sarei announced the main event with national light heavyweight champion John Korake taking on John Decklam on Oct 27.
“The fight will be the first of two local boxing events that will be telecasted by TV Wan Action which will be OFP’s official naming rights sponsor for the event,” he said.
“It’s a very timely and fitting way to deliver a fight, given the recent issue with the new preventative measures issued by the National Control Centre.
“This is the next big step in exposing and developing boxing in our country.”
Sarei said the partnership with TV Wan now gave local boxers an opportunity to showcase and market themselves with bouts to be telecast live across the country.
The Oct 27 event will have six undercard bouts along with the main event that is scheduled to be held at the Sir John Guise Stadium Indoor Complex in Port Moresby.
Meanwhile, OFP managing director Maryanne Millie said the bouts would still have to go through Coronavirus (Covid-19) protocols with the centre.
“We’re happy to be given this opportunity to work alongside TV Wan for October and November,” she said.
“We were successful in hosting international bouts earlier this year.
“We will be seeking approval from the centre’s Niupela Pasin team for us to go ahead with our fights towards the end of this month.”
Millie said there were plans for more professional bouts next year along with possible fights for women.
