THE Port Moresby Rugby Football League has suspended its competition for the next three weeks following the National Control Centre’s ban on gatherings of more than 20 people.
“As everyone is aware now, we have a ban on gatherings and our competition is fully aware of the directives and we will be abiding by them,” league administrator Meke Maino said.
“We have put all our matches on hold and we are looking at getting our Covid-19 protocols re-submitted before we resume matches.
“The board is fully aware of the situation and we will work to ensure that we complete our second round of matches.
“The administration had gone through the same scenario last year.
“So we will be looking back on how we managed the season then and see how we can best resume matches if we are given approval.”
Meanwhile, Maino reiterated the board’s decision from last month on the competition not allowing unregistered players to play.
“The board arrived at the decision because we still have many players who are yet to register and, despite all the deadlines and warnings, they are still playing,” he said.
“We’re heading towards the end of the year and we have the Southern Confederation trials, so unregistered players will be the ones left behind.”
