FOUR police officers in Daru who punctured the tires of the only police car there have been suspended, according to Assistant Police Commissioner Border Command Peter Philip.
He said the four were believed to be under the influence of alcohol when they shot the tires of the police vehicle at the Daru police station.
“The four policemen have now been suspended from duty without pay for an indefinite period until all the criminal and administrative investigations are done,” Philip said.
He said they were yet to establish what provoked the four policemen to damage the police car and the police station signboard.
“I will make sure the four police officers are dealt with accordingly by the police internal investigation unit,” Philip said.
He said the poor conduct of policemen under his command must stop as neared the general election.
“Police officers need to change their behaviors because they will be providing security to the public.”
He said he was now taking action to penalise them. Philip is travelling to Daru to deal with the four policemen and sort out other issues at the South Fly and Daru police stations.
