Officers investigate fake visas

HIGHLY-classified investigation on fake visas threatening national security is being investigated by selected officers from Immigration, says Minister for Immigration and Border Security Westly Nukundj.
He said the investigation team should be protected at all times until all suspects were arrested.
“I have sanctioned the most important investigation ever, undertaken in the record of PNG Immigration and as such, I have the duty to protect the sensitiveness of the investigations,” Nukundj said.
“I reiterate that this internal investigation, its recommendations and implementation of the recommendations take precedence over any other investigation and operation.”
Nukundj cancelled a recent trip by a joint operation team to Central and Gulf.
He said he would not tolerate any ad hoc operation which would divert attention and dilute the intention of the investigation as such operations would interfere with potential suspects and jeopardise the investigations.
“Past records have shown officers have abused foreigners, interfered with witnesses as there was a recent case of an officer mobilising policemen and assaulting foreigners in the night for reporting him on corrupt activities,” Nukundj claimed.
“After the recall of the operation, the team members and officers from participating agencies saw it fit to go on social media tarnishing my name and even swearing at me,” he said.
“I am registering an official complaint to the police minister and commissioner of police in this regard to charge officers under the cybercrime laws.
“I have no personal interest to stop any investigations.
“From record, it is under my leadership that record number of disreputable foreigners have been arrested and deported. Also, under my leadership, many visa agents and immigrations officers are being investigated and charged.
“I will not tolerate corrupt officers who try to undermine the current investigations for their own selfish gain under the disguise of conducting operations.
“ICA will be summoned to show cause on the utility of this operation.
“The interest of national security is paramount and as such, all future engagements will be sanctioned by my office and all investigations will be conducted by the special investigations taskforce team with its team leader as the head.”

  • Why talk to Media when this investigation is highly sensitive. There has to be a media ban so that culprits do not go underground!!

  • Yes, I think its about time the immigration minister also screen fake products entering PNG from Asian countries. There are people from PNG accepting bribes from Asians.

What is immigration doing? Are we protecting PNG or protecting our pockets? Which is it?

Asians have spoilt PNG, why does the government keep accepting Asians into PNG?

PNG must start selling European products that are written in plain English & not another Indian, Indonesian, Malaysian, or some kind language we can’t even understand?

There could be something in the product that PNG people are consuming that might make people sick, who knows?

Immigration Minister, please stop taking bribes but clean the country?
