TWO sons of a recently deceased policeman and two others are on the run after allegedly damaging an air conditioner and the wall of the Talidig Police Station in Madang.
Madang police commander acting Supt Mazuc Rubiang said the police were investigating the matter and arrests would be made soon.
He said the children of any police personnel did not have the right to damage any property that belonged to the Police Department.
“I was not happy when I received the report of what had happened last week at Talidig where two sons of a late policemen were alledgedly involved in damaging the air conditioner of the police station and the wall,” he said.
“I have instructed my officers to arrest and charge them all and let them explain in court what they had done.”
Supt Rubiang said the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary did not have enough funds to carry out maintenance on its properties so he wanted all officers to look after police properties.
Meanwhile, Talidig police arrested and charged a 52-year-old man for producing home-brewed alcohol at Rempi village.
Supt Rubiang said the suspect would appear in court to answer his charge.
He said it was concerning to see older people getting involved in producing illegal alcohol for sale and their own consumption.
“Most crimes reported in the province are alcohol-related and older people in the community should be assisting police to go against such behaviour but they are doing it which means they are supporting it.”
