Official in court over dangerous driving

A GOVERNMENT officer appeared before the Vanimo District Court for allegedly killing a man while driving along the Vanimo-Wutung road in West Sepik, senior Provincial Magistrate Sasa Inkung says.
Richard Faringuma, 42, from Kiarivu village, Yangoru, East Sepik, appeared in court yesterday on charges of dangerous driving causing death.
It was alleged that Faringuma hit a motor bike rider at Waromo village last week.
He was driving a hired Land Cruiser when he bumped the rider last Saturday, killing him.
Inkung said Faringuma was remanded at the Vanimo jail.
He said Faringuma would go back to court on Oct 18.
Meanwhile, Inkung said three suspects, from East Sepik, were allegedly involved in stealing about K341,000 worth of properties from a shop in Imbio, also appeared.
Owen Wani, 29, from Torembi, Gawi; Roger Arus, 43, from Winjuan, Yangoru; and, Joshua Kiumohu from Kairuru Island, Wewak, appeared in court charged with armed robbery.
The men were alleged to have robbed Ocean Paradise Ltd at Imbio on Aug 27.
Inkung said the suspects, armed with hand guns, used a hire car to Imbio to rob the shop.
They then escaped heading to Aitape but abandoned the vehicle after police pursued them.
On Sept 11, police apprehended the men in Vanimo after a tip off as they were about to board a dinghy to East Sepik.
The men have been remanded at Vanimo jail.
They wiil appear in court again on Oct 18.
