MOROBE’s Huon-Gulf district is set to see more elementary schools being registered and unpaid elementary school teachers having their wages backdated and paid..
Provincial elementary schools coordinator Haring Qarake and Huon district elementary coordinator Antipas Mato made the announcement during the official opening of a double classroom each for Gabmazung Primary school and Gapsongkeg elementary school, in Gapsongkeg village near Nadzab airport last Friday, courtesy of Digicel Foundation. They told teachers, students and parents that a submission containing the list of new elementary schools to be registered and the list for the elementary school teachers who had been performing their duties as volunteers had been submitted to the teaching services commission for approval.
Mato said this important process would benefit Huon Gulf district and Morobe as registered elementary schools would benefit from government funding as well as have their teachers put on government payroll.
Most of those teachers from the unregistered schools have been performing their roles without being paid and will have their wages backdated.
Mato stressed the importance of having more elementary and primary schools in the rural communities.
Education officials  thanked Digicel Foundation for its contribution towards improving the education sector and human resources of Huon Gulf district and the country through its classroom building
projects, especially in order to see the local population getting basic
education.
