NATIONAL Capital District Governor’s Cup rookies Southside Brothers are determined to win the title despite having no sponsor, coach and experienced players.
Brothers official Matt Rilly said they were mostly youngsters from the Moresby South Rugby League.
“A lot of our guys know and play with the players from QPR Colts,” he said.
“But when the Colts roster was full, we decided to make our team for those who didn’t make the cut.
“Colts are our ‘brothers’ and we’re happy to play against them and other teams in the tournament.
“The team is made up of mostly junior players, most of them with little or no experience.
“But we thought it would a good idea to get ourselves together and form a team.
“We agreed to have each player contribute at least K50 while we raised funds to pay our registration fee and hire jerseys for the tournament.
“At this point, we don’t have a coach but it’s just the players and a few individuals who’ve stepped in to share ideas and game patterns.
“We told ourselves that if we were good enough to reach the finals, we’re good enough to compete with the bigger teams and we’re excited to actually make the final.”
