OFFICIALS from Boungainville, East New Britain (ENB), West New Britain (WNB) and Manus attended a workshop on regional youth games in Kokopo last month.
It was an initiative by the Office of the Papua New Guinea Youth Development Authority and the PNG Sports Foundation.
The games are a new concept aimed at driving initiatives at the ward, district and provincial levels in line with the National Youth Policy 2020-2050.
Papua New Guinea Games Council New Guinea Islands member Christine Masiu said the concept would create a new opportunity for youths in the region.
“Our focus is on establishing and sustaining inter-district sports competitions for youths at the regional level,” she said.
“We’re also looking to promote mass participation in all sports at the ward, local-level government and district levels.
“This is to identify raw talents for the PNG Games.”
