THE Papua New Guinea Rugby Football League’s (PNGRFL) Southern Confederate started training its officials this week in preparation for competitions in the region, according to an official.
Confederate administrator Indy Verena said the training, aimed at helping officials familiarise themselves with PNGRFL’s Banis Protocols, was being held at Sir John Guise Stadium.
“The confederate has been waiting anxiously for competitions to resume and after wide consultation, the processes will apply under the protocols,” he said.
“Leagues looking to resume their competitions this year are advised to identify a representative each to attend the training.
“The representatives will then retire to their respective leagues and conduct training on the requirements of the protocols.
“After the training, each league will devise their own standard operation procedures and submit them to PNGRFL for screening.
“PNGRFL will then refer the procedures to the PNG Sports Federation (PNGSF) for approval.
“The Port Moresby Rugby Football League is the only competition in the confederate that has been granted PNGSF approval.
“Leagues are urged to ensure this process is complied with.
“If the procedures and protocols are not met, it will bring the sport to a halt.
“Rugby league is the first sport to resume operations following the lifting of the state of emergency, with the Digicel Cup now two weeks into its season.”
