THE MORATA OffSeason Rugby League has suspended its matches to allow for the National Capital District Governor’s Cup to be held at the Kone Tigers Oval.
League president Samson Metofa told The National yesterday that the competition would resume this Saturday after the completion of the Governor’s Cup. “The Governor’s Cup games are played at the Kone Tigers Oval so we had to call off round four,” the league’s president said.
Metofa said most of their players were also competing in the Governor’s Cup, so it was only appropriate that they suspended the round and let them play in the tournament.
“But the first three weeks of our games have been great,” he said.
“There are a lot of youths showing interest and they have joined teams in the three divisions.
“We have two pools each in the premier, Under-20 and women’s divisions.” Metofa has appealed to individuals and business houses in the city to support the teams in the off-season league especially in terms of uniforms.
“A total of 22 teams is a lot and there are many players without uniforms,” he said.
“We appeal to individuals and business houses to provide uniforms for the teams.
“These are settlement youths who are trying to do something worthwhile.
“We should provide them with playing gear, so that we keep them busy instead of them causing trouble on the streets.”
