NATIONAL Capital District police are gearing up for the New Year operations as the 800-plus officers aim to ensure the city is quiet as it welcomes 2021.
Met Supt Perou N’dranou said the city would be allowed to celebrate between midnight and 1am.
“After that hour, the police will be going through the city and picking up anyone who continues to cause a nuisance,” he said.
“This is not a curfew, I am allowing that hour for residents of the city to celebrate.
“After 1am anyone caught continuing to create havoc in their streets or on the roads will be detained.”
Met Supt N’dranou also warned residents in the city to stop burning old tyres and throwing mud or breaking bottles on the street as a way of welcoming the New Year.
“Do not drag out burning debris when celebrating the New Year,” he said.
“Respect your neighbours.”
He warned residents to not drink and drive and to celebrate responsibly in their own yard.
