Ok Tedi Mine, union reach agreement

Business, Main Stories

THE Ok Tedi Mine Ltd and its unionised workers recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to resolve issues that trigged a 16-day strike action last April before Aug 1.
The document was signed in the presence of Mining and Deputy Prime Minister Sir Puka Temu.
Major points of the deal included an improvement in home ownership scheme, assistance benefit arrangements and improvement of the retirement and redundancy benefits for long-serving employees.
Under the agreement, the workers comprising the OTM Allied Workers’ Union  are bound to support productivity improvement and cost-reduction initiatives to strengthen the company’s competitive position.
