A MAN accused of killing another man during a council election appeared before the Mt Hagen Committal Court on Friday and will reappear in two weeks along with eight co-accused, who gave themselves up to police.
All are in custody at Baisu prison and will appear for mention on Sept 30.
John Bulda Raim, 50, from Kilma village in Nebilyer, Western Highlands, was arrested last week in Mt Hagen and charged with murder.
Police said that on July 25, Raim and his eight co-accused went to Joseph Loli and allegedly killed him in retaliation of supporters of a Pinambi council candidate assaulting Paul Raim.
Police prosecutor Paul Urangian said Raim and his co-accused looked for Pinambe tribesmen in Mt Hagen that day.
Police said that between 3pm and 4pm, they went into Loli’s house.
He was with his wife and two children, aged 12 and 7.
Police said the co-accused allegedly chopped his left hand and later went for his body.
Loli managed to ran away but the co-accused chased and chopped his leg tendons and killed him.
They then ran away.
However, police told the court that the eight co-accused surrendered and were locked up.
Magistrate Donald Joseph told John Raim that he would be locked up with the co-accused.
