O’Neill praised

Letters

Peter O’Neill has proven beyond doubt that he is not only the best prime minister but his visions are the building blocks of a rising economic power in the South Pacific.
The arrival of the planet’s richest and most-powerful political leaders – US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladamir Putin and Chinese President – is not a political or foreign policy coincidence or stunt as some perceive.
What is about to unfold during the Apec Summit 2018 will be the dawn of a new chapter for PNG as it consolidate its position as a growing economic power in the region.
Prior to the meeting of the Apec in Port Moresby, O’Neill and his Government relentlessly insisted and pushed for a bigger budget to expand the country’s economic portfolio – a move widely criticised by subjective political pundits.
Apec Summit is the icing on the cake.
O’Neill changed the rules of the games and did what most never thought of or were hesitant to do.
He burned the feel-good textbook of budget surplus and practically showed why PNG does not need a surplus budget at this time until all sovereign infrastructure to support economic growth is built and maintained.
He went out and borrow more money, again against cries of subjective critics whose chorus of increased debt-to-GDP ratio became mind-boggling.
Great leaders understand the coefficient of democracy better to guide its elasticity, and that’s what O’Neill did.
He allowed critics to have their field day, denouncing everything that he does and did.
Never a time had O’Neill sanctioned the media, even when critics inspired uprising that accused the prime minister of threatening their common textbook-perceived debt-to-GDP ratio.
Critical economic corridors are now being opened up to pave way for inclusive economic participation of our vast rural and remote-based population.
He did not stop there.
He committed the Government to convince Apec member states and successfully qualified PNG to host Apec meet.
This is a demonstration of a great leader and political mind.
As cultured Melanesians, we must be proud of our prime minister’s achievements and be inspired by his leadership as he walks us into Apec Summit to commemorate his outstanding leadership, meet and mingle with the world’s greatest powers.
Rest assured that the best is yet to come.
