O’Neill’s case adjourned to Oct 12

THE case of Ialibu-Pangia MP Peter O’Neill charged with misappropriation and official corruption has been adjourned to Oct 12 for submissions on sufficiency of evidence after his police hand-up brief was served on him yesterday.
Waigani Committal Court Magistrate Tracy Ganaii adjourned the case to allow O’Neill’s lawyer to peruse the files and make appropriate submissions.
Magistrate Ganaii also arraigned O’Neill, 55, of Kauwo village in Pangia, Southern Highlands, on an additional charge of conspiracy yesterday, relating to the same facts.
Police alleged that O’Neill conspired with then acting secretary for Treasury Dairi Vele and others by fraudulently processing and facilitating an illegal payment of K50 million to LR Group Ltd for the purchase of two diesel turbine generators for PNG Power without following lawful procurement processes under the Public Finance Management Act. He was alleged to have also on Dec 4, 2013, corruptly and unlawfully directed K50mil of the public funds.

  • Corruption is written all over his face, why is PNG still listening to him. He basically ran PNG into this deep hole we are in now. All statutory bodies responsible for anti-corruption should work to together to bring those corrupt crooks to justice and send them to Bomana…. that’s where they all (corrupt people) belong.
