LAST week’s South Pacific Export Papua New Guinea Golf Open (national) attracted two professional golfers and 106 amateurs for the four-day tournament at the Royal Port Moresby Golf Club.
Playing against the odds, local golfer Cassie Koma came out on top to win the tournament, which teed off on Sept 24.
“This year’s tournament is unlike the previous years due to the Covid-19,” SP Brewery said in a statement yesterday.
“Our internationals linked to the Professional Golfers’ Association Australia were not able to participate due to the pandemic.
“The club initiated this national incentive for local amateur golfers to participate in a local tournament.”
During the trophy presentation on Sunday, brewery managing director Ed Weggemans said: “We are happy to come on board and support the club with this initiative and Papua New Guinean golfers.
“We are proud that Koma won the first SP Export PNG Golf Open (national).
“Congratulations to him.”
