PORT Moresby AFL (POMAFL) has started preparations for its shortened season with a fun day scheduled for tomorrow at the Colts Oval inside the Bisini Sports precinct.
POMAFL said in a statement that the fun day was aimed at bringing teams and officials together “light” matches before discussing the season.
“The fun day will start at midday and will involve 12-a-side friendly matches for men and women,” it said.
“The main idea behind this event is to drum up the interest of all club officials and players alike to kick off a short season.
“The season will serve as a pre-season for the end of the year ahead of the new season early next year and so we’re calling on all AFL followers to attend.”
Meanwhile, POMAFL president Douglas Lai said the fun day would also allow the executives to consult clubs and officials on a suggested format of the shortened season.
“The fun day has been planned to gather interest from clubs so when the numbers are there on Saturday, a discussion will take place to plan a short season,” he said.
“We’ve initially planned for the season to run in October and November so we should be able to reach our finals by the end of November.”
Lai urged club officials to advise their teams to prepare for the season with an official date to be confirmed by the end of this weekend.
