PETE’S PUNCHLINE

Sports

  • I know they’re somewhat of a long shot to beat West Coast in Perth in the first round of the AFL finals but I hope Colingwood gives it a red hot go. C’mon you ‘Pies. And I reckon the Tigers will get the Lions in Brissy.
  • The Lakers breezed through the Heat in Game 1 of the NBA finals yesterday (PNG time). LeBron and AD combined to score half of LA’s 116 points. I think if the Heat want to come back and win it, they just need to shutdown AD and tell LBJ to do it all on his own. And if LeBron still manages it then he moves up a notch to No.5 in my all time great rankings behind: 1. MJ, 2. Kareem, 3. Magic and 4. Russell. Bird falls down to No.6.
  • Is it just me or are the Gurias building as sentimental favourites to win the Digicel Cup. With due respect to the other teams, Papa Guria deserves the send off.
  • With the latest Cabinet re-shuffle seeing a new Deputy PM and a few other ministers changed, I couldn’t but help thinking when Wesley Raminai will be made Sports Minister. Hasn’t the man deputised long enough in the role?
  • Vitiaz United haven’t scored a single goal for the past three game and they still have the top two goal scorers for the league in their line-up. Should be an interesting when they meet Hekari.
  • I can’t see Gulf Komara outmuscling an already formidable/classy Lae City side for the first major semi-final tomorrow but a lot has changed since City’s 5-0 over Gulf in round 11.
  • What a meteoric rise for Elsie Albert. Catch her playing for St George tomorrow against the Roosters. She’ll be in the No.13 jersey. Go, Elsie! – PGTP ([email protected])
