Opposition calls on govt to be transparent

OPPOSITION Leader Belden Namah has urged the Government to be transparent in its commitment to the Australian bushfire relief.
“In the interest of transparency for the tax payers for both countries, the Prime Minister (James Marape) must detail how much Australia is paying for this deployment and what is our actual commitment from Papua New Guinea to support our brothers and sisters in Australia,” Namah said.
Namah also urged the Government to reveal who was funding the PNG soldiers’ allowances, food and accommodation in Australia.
Namah also questioned the Government on why two Royal Australian Air force c-130 Hercules aircrafts were used to fly PNG soldiers to Australia when Air Niugini had offered to assist.
“If we are truly and honestly seeking to support Australia, and to do our part to help in disaster recovery, we (PNG) must meet the costs of our deployment,” Namah said.
