OPPOSITION Leader Douglas Tomuriesa says legal opinion is being sought over the Government’s Connect PNG programme.
He said after Parliament yesterday that members would discuss whether to take the matter to court.
“On the issues raised today (yesterday) in Parliament, I will be seeking the caucus’ views and the possibility of us taking the matter to court,” he said.
“From the two points raised by Hiri-Koiari MP Keith Iduhu, we all know that the contracts let out to contractors were illegal. The Opposition will not let all these questions go unanswered. We will make sure we are answerable to the people of PNG.”
He said MPs must not turn a blind eye on such issues.
Deputy Opposition Leader James Nomane described the Connect PNG programme as a “procurement scam” which must be stopped.
“The prime minister should be more responsible about how he responds to this very critical question, because he cannot be passing a law in Parliament and then breaking it,” he said.
“He announced to the country that this programme has 300 companies engaged. But where are these companies? Where are the 30,000 jobs created by these 300 companies?
“We have to stop lying to the people of PNG.
“For far too long the people’s money has been squandered under this Connect PNG procurement scam. We will continue to push until we stop this procurement scam.”
