THE success of a five-year development plan will make Maprik the most vibrant district in East Sepik, MP John Simon says.

Simon was speaking at a workshop on database reporting at ward levels in Malba village, Maprik, last weekend.

He said the plan to be launched this month would become the key policy statement into providing quality social services and creating opportunities for people to participate and benefit from economic activities in the district.

“The district development plan is driven by the national goals and directives that are realistic and achievable,” Simon said.

He said to achieve the plan, the following were needed:

l Identify, develop and produce effective leadership and good governance at all levels in the district;

l Generate appropriate enabling policies, processes and procedures to address critical capacity issues and good governance in the district;

l Produce healthy, educated and skilled communities;

l Develop enabling infrastructure at the LLG level;

l Develop and generate enabling skills and financial capacities for the people of Maprik;

l Focus on effective service delivery at all levels;

l Uphold enabling values preserve beliefs, customs and traditions of the people of Maprik; and

l Create a community of working and performing individuals and groups that is responsible and accountable.

“The challenge for us is to ensure that we set clear, attainable goals and secure our future human capacities and destiny by building our internal capabilities well, based on the experience we have learned,” he said.
